Turner’s return stuns Hevingham
Turner’s return stuns Hevingham
After months out of the sport following a serious operation John
Turner returned to defend his Bure League Triples Championship
title at Woodbastwick and amazed spectators as his East Tudden-
ham triple powered their
way to victory.
In the final East Tudden-
ham’s Chrissey Turner,
John Turner & Robin
Amos faced Hevingham’s Eddie Hayward, David
Sharpe & Maurice Kemp. The first end saw Amos’s
triple open with a four before adding a single on the sec-
ond end. It was not the start Kemp’s triple had hoped
for but they knuckled down and cut the deficit to just two
shots after four ends.
John Turner was not about to let Hevingham spoil
his comeback though and a three on the next end re-
stored their five shot lead. Kemp’s triple scored a single
on the penultimate end but Amos’s triple finished in style scoring five shots on the last end to
win 13-4. In the semi-finals Robin Amos beat Ken Dease, Keith Halford & Mike Boswell of An-
glian Windows 8-3 after trailing 3-0 after two ends. In the other semi-final Maurice Kemp put a
stop to any chance of an all East Tuddenham final when he beat Linda Chadwick, Les Chadwick
& Peter Smart 7-5.
Wymondham triumph in Dennis Moore Tournament
The Dennis Moore Tournament saw Wymondham lift the team title with 154 points while
Hingham was second on 124. Jon Sparham of Wymondham won the singles title with Banham’s
John Williamson second. Mark White & Colin Harris of Hingham were pair’s winners with Chris
Musk & Sylvia Parsons of Connaught “A”.
in second place. Mike Parsons, Ty Musk & Sheila Bragg of Connaught “A” won the triples
with Banham’s C Smith, E Smith & E McAnulty the runners-up. Hingham’s Pat Roach, Mary
Potter, Janet Higgs & Malcolm Southgate won the fours with Wymondham’s Melvyn Barker,
Shirley Foster, Billie Barker & Brian Saunders in second place.
Kirby Bedon hold Woodbastwick in cup final thriller
Woodbastwick’s tricky mats can be fatal for the visitors hopes so cup holders Kirby Bedon
were more than pleased to emerge from the first leg of the Bure Cup Final with the scores level
at 12-12. The first session was drawn as home triple Derek Oates, D Sheldrake & Jim Couling
won 7-5 while Melvyn Barker, Brian Saunders & Selwyn Goldsmith replied with a 5-2 win for
Kirby.
In the second session the visitors moved ahead as Shirley Brown, Gerald Chilvers & Joe
Brown won 6-3 while Alistair Hunter’s Kirby triple drew with Trevor Hallett. After three sessions
Kirby led 7-5 on points after a 5-4 win for Jill Watson, Pat Saunders & Phil Watson while the
home side replied with a 7-4 win by Jim Couling’s triple. Another drawn session followed with
Billie Barker, Jimmy Dye & Alistair Hunter winning 7-5 while Trevor Hallett’s triple produced the
biggest win of the night with a 13-0 score-line.
Finally Woodbastwick took the lead for the first time by 11-9 on points as Tony Wright’s
triple won 7-3 and Trevor Hallett delivered a last bowl winner to snatch a 7-6 win. The lead
though was short lived as in the final session of the night Joe Brown’s Kirby triple won 9-3 while
Phil Watson’s triple made a great comeback to draw 7-7 with home skip Peter Jablonowski. The
second leg of the Bure Cup Final will be played later.
