DO WE HAVE AN ESMBA HEAD OFFICE TEAM
12 DO WE HAVE AN ESMBA HEAD OFFICE TEAM
THAT CARES? IF SO PROVE IT.
THAT CARES? IF SO PROVE IT.
Short mat bowls seems to me to be run by, in the most, older people who
are only interested in rolling on an afternoon and have no interest in try-
ing to promote the game. l include myself in the older person.
The ESMBA committee AT HEAD OFFICE seem to just want titles
but what do they actually do? l have been playing for 5 years as before
Readers Letters I had never heard about the game...that tells you something, and during
and Emails that time I have qualified as an umpire and coach. The only time I have
been contacted by the coaching head office section and that was to
check my contact details. l have never been contacted by the Umpiring head office team although
I do have some contact with the area manager.
Do they have any young blood on the committee? Have they spoken to any company re pro-
moting the sport? Have they asked the members for any ideas that may assist? How about asking
all its members to submit ideas for them to go through? Local clubs seem to be in decline with
falling numbers and yet I see no evidence of any publicity to promote the game in the media. Per-
haps head office should try to do some advertising around the country and even try to get a spon-
sor to get it on the television. I am sure that is possible.
It is a great shame as it is a god game to socialism with people, assists with keeping fit and
is relatively cheap to play. Starting young keeps teenagers off the street and is the way to go so
maybe by going into schools or colleges and giving free tuition may help as that is the age the
people need to be caught. I WOULD WELCOME A REPLY TO THIS IN THE NEXT ISSUE STAT-
ING EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO PROMOTE THE GAME AROUND THE COUNTRY
BUT IF THEY DON'T RESPOND THAT TELLS US THEY DON'T CARE AT ALL.
If they do and supply good evidence
that they are promoting it prove me wrong
then I will apologise.

ED - For anyone thinking I sneakily
wrote the above I certainly didn’t. Anything I
have to say will be said up front and clearly.
There is I believe something clearly wrong
with an ESMBA that has “lost its way”. I
agree on some points but not others. I am al-
ways prepared to print “Name withheld” let-
ters, PROVIDED I know exactly who has
written them. As far as I can remember, in my
24 years of producing the magazine, I have
only failed to print three letters.
Two were about criticism of team selec-
tion for their county team and served no pur-
pose in the magazine. The other was about
an Umpire who had passed his test and
bought all the correct dress but his county
wouldn’t use him for mileage financial rea-
sons. He had my sympathy but like the other
two letters it was really a domestic matter in
his county and not for SMI. So what do you
think about the above letter?
