CRABTREE TROPHY FINALS
CRABTREE TROPHY FINALS
This internal league started in 2015 in memory of Brenda Crabtree a founder member of
the club. The league is growing in popularity and this year 21 members took part, 7 teams
of 3 players played over 7 weeks, the standard of bowling was impressive.
The finals were once again exciting to watch, with the 3 top teams, Oak, Willow and
Cedar, having an equal chance of winning. Oak played Cedar and Willow played Ash. At
the start of this match Ash were in 6th position, so on paper it looked to be an easy game
for Willow, this was certainly not the case; Ash and Willow both played strongly, on the
14th end Ash were 6 shots in front of Willow.
An equally keen game played out between Cedar and Oak: Cedar won the first 2
ends and kept the lead all through the game putting Oak under pressure. The score was
very close until the 14th end; Oak 10 Cedar 11 but Cedar steadily pulled away to win the
game 21 to 13. The pressure was too much for the Oaks who had held their top position
each week throughout the League. Well done Alf, Brenda and Linda, (Cedar) to win against
the mighty Oaks, they were always a contender and finished the League with 8 points and
a massive 162 shots. Judith, Lyn and Christine in Team Oak finished the League with 8
points and 134 shots.
The Willows were weeping at the bottom of the League but steadily moved 1 position
upwards through the thickets, to become top of the League. After 20 ends the score was
Ash 21 to Willow 22, the next 2 ends were very tense, Willow scored 2 shots on the penul-
timate end and Ash scored 1 shot on the last end; the final score was Ash 22 to Willow 23.
Well done Ash, who kept the pressure on all throughout the game. Norman, Lynne and
Leo (Willow) didn't give up, they won the match, finishing the League 10 points and with
129 shots. Club President, Dennis Crabtree presented Trophies to the winning Team, Wil-
lows and the runners up, Cedars received chocolates.
