Apart from the Bowls Drive, the next event
to be completed was the two-bowl Singles.
At the Quarter final stage, Sheila Booker ran
out with three two’s for a 9 - 3 victory over
Shirley Banner. Roger Booker was 4 - 6
down with two ends to go against Liz
Mitchel but a one, two finish snatched a 7 -
6 victory.
Bob Cousins was 2 - 7 down to Janet
Bowls Drive winners Lunn after six ends but he took the next

four ends to level the match at 7 all and then a single on the sudden death extra end
for an 8 - 7 win. Phil Banner then beat Dave Taylor, a previous winner, by 8 - 5. He could
not reproduce this form in his Semi-final and went down 8 - 5 to Bob Cousins. In the
Husband and Wife Semi-final there was no quarter and
a very close match ensued with Sheila Booker edging
past Roger Booker 7 - 6.
The final was an absolutely hard-fought cracking
match. With just two ends to go Bob Cousins led 8 - 5
but back came Sheila Booker with a two and then a
single to level the match at 8 all and forcing a sudden-
death extra end, on which Sheila scored the vital sin-
gle that gave her a 9 - 8 victory.
In the Triples Quarter finals, Gill Lever, Jenny Cox
& David Hardy were pushed hard by Fred Douglas,
Dave & Joan Taylor but managed a narrow 7 - 6 win.
Sheila Booker, Phil & Shirley Banner were in abso- Finalist Bob Cousins and
lutely scintillating form against Eunice Thompson,

Maria & Richard Kitchener and romped home 11 - 1.
In their QF Dave Baker, Margaret Hastings & Bob Cousins led 7 - 0 over Pam Fay-
ers, John & Sheila Hillier but a fightback over the last four ends put in a respectable
scoreline at 5 - 7 but they could not overcome the deficit. John, Mary & Richard Paddy
had a comfortable 9 - 4 win over Liz Mitchell, Sandra Smith & Tessa Deal.
In their Semi-final “local Derby”, Dave
Baker, Margaret Hastings & Bob Cousins
were in devastating form, beating the Paddy
trio 12 - 3. The other Semi-final had a similar
scoreline with Sheila Booker, Phil & Shirley
Banner beating Gill Lever, Jenny Cox & David
Hardy 13 - 2.
A hard fought final was anticipated and
the spectators were treated to a game worthy
of a final Sheila Booker, Phil & Shirley Banner
established an early 6 - 1 lead after four ends
and this became 9 - 3 with two ends to go with
some outstanding bowling from both Triples.
