The opening evenings friendly Bowls Drive was
won by 31 shots to 12 and proved to be a great
“get to know you” event.
The next event to be completed was the
two-bowl Singles. At the Quarter final stage
Kevin Howarth beat Bob Stock 8 - 5; Jeff Han-
ney beat Eric Hasker; Ros Howarth beat Monica
Carter 9 - 1 and Vionne Thornhill snatched a 7
6 victory over Eddie Ahier with a last end two.
Vionne then went on to beat Ros Howarth
Bowls Drive winners 8 - 3 whilst Kevin Howarth beat Jeff Hanney 10
Bowls Drive winners
Steve Hasker, Marian Greenwell - 3, so a Husband and wife final was narrowly
Steve Hasker, Marian Greenwell
and Paul Walden averted but it might have proved very interest-
and Paul Walden
ing indeed.
Whilst the final was a hard-fought affair and Vionne got
within a shot of Kevin at 4 - 5 but a single and a two
gave Kevin Howarth an 8 - 4 win in an enjoyable final.
The Triples Quarter finals saw the very strong trio
of Les Woodward, Sheila King & Tony Gepp romping
home by 12 - 4 over Molly Jones, Doug & Jeanette
Passmore.
Also, with a good win, Francis Dennett, Bob &
Maureen Williams took an 8 - 0 lead at one point before
beating Cynthia Riley, Rene Morgan & Gerry Williams
11 - 5.
In a very tight QF Sandra Teale, Jeff & Margaret
Hanney scored a last end single to beat Vionne Thorn-
hill, Diane & Bert Butterfield 11 - 10, despite dropping
a full house six on the opening end. Completing the Finalist Vionne Thornhill and
Finalist Vionne Thornhill and
round, Steve, Doreen & Eric Hasker edged past Carol Champion Kevin Howarth
Champion Kevin Howarth
Robbins, Frank Clark & Bob Stock by 7 - 5.
In the semi-final the Haskers were undone by Francis Dennett, Bob & Maureen
Williams, who progressed to the final. The other Semi-final was a real humdinger of a
game, with Sandra Teale, Jeff & Margaret Hanney scoring a last end single to level the
match at 7 all against Les Woodward, Sheila King & Tony Gepp but the latter had the last
laugh by scoring a two on the sudden-death extra end for a 9 - 7 victory and earning their
place in the final.
