ganised a great event, which
seemed to go without hiccup.
For those who have been
playing for some years, it is
easy to forget how young our
sport is at international level.
New and inexperienced play-
ers can be caught out and
there were some big defeats.
Sometimes these score
can make a difference to places and qualifiers but that’s just unfortunate. We are laying down the
road to a great world sport that will only come into full fruition long after we have gone. Most forms
of bowls have a history going back over a 100 years but our full Internationals didn’t start properly
until the full all Short Mat 1990 British Isles Championships and the World event in 1998.
Ireland started in 1960 England followed in 1984 and others followed after that and at a snail’s
pace our sport is starting to grow around the World. Belgium 2020 for the next Worlds.
