12 Bellinger Open Triples
Bellinger Open Triples
This was the 4th running of the Bellinger
Open Triples. An annual competition
hosted by the Bellinger Bowls Club. This
has become a popular competition in the
Short Mat Bowling calendar.
Competing were 12 teams from
Hampshire and Wiltshire. The event was
held on 3 mats at the Shipton Bellinger Vil-
lage Hall.
This has proved to be an ideal venue
The winners the 38’s, brothers
Graham and Clive Browning & Roy Best with good facilities and a stage at one end
of the hall overlooking the bowling area
where spectators can watch the competition without interfering with play.
The day started with teams being split into 3
groups, each team playing 3 games in a round robin.
Following a short break for lunch the teams again
split into 3 groups based on their performance in the
round robin, Main, Plate and Consolation groups. A
further two games were played by all teams gener-
ating winners and runners -up in each group.
Overall it was well fought competition. The win-
ners were the 38’s, team made of brothers Graham
and Clive Browning ably assisted by Roy Best. They
walked away with the Bellinger Trophy and engraved
tankards. Runners-up Burdock Bad Boys
Runners-up were The Burdock Bad Boys, Robin Walsh, Jeff Hanwell
Robin Walsh, Jeff Hanwell, and David Stallibrass. and David Stallibrass
Winners of the Plate competition were Test Valley,
Nigel Fox, Shirley Palmer and Anne Fox. Winners of the Consolation were the Morton Team,
Frank Morton, Stan Mond and Angie Rowe. It proved to be a most enjoyable day.

Kewstoke Tournament
Kewstoke Short Mat Bowling Club held their
25th Annual Spring Fours Tournament at the
Village Hall, with 16 teams competing from
Devon, Dorset, South Gloucestershire, Here-
fordshire, Somerset, Oxfordshire and North
Somerset.
This year however, we tried a different for-
mat with just two groups of eight teams. Each

awarded for a game won and 1 point for a
drawn game. After the third round we had three teams on 6 points, Wallingford (Oxford), The
Motley Crew from Devon and Baltonsborough (Somerset) with the team from Spaxton (Bridg-
water) on 4 points but with a shot difference of + 14.
After this fourth round Spaxton won easily with 7 shots to Hemyock’s 4 shots, making
this total shot difference + 17, the best of the tournament. Meanwhile Wallingford and The
Village People (Mark) only managed a draw.
