                                                              CARPET BOWLS NEWS
Carpet bowls in West Sussex has never been as strong
as in other counties and there are only five clubs now
who belong to the WSCBA. When we had a bigger
membership we ran a league, but now we play just
                                                       friendly matches.
However, once a year we all get together for an
Open Competition which is held at the Selsey Centre,
near Chichester. This is a great opportunity for all our
Winners Pat Cocksedge, clubs to meet up under one roof.
Sylvia Ballinger, Sixteen teams took part from Birdham, Bosham,
and Annette Iskett North Mundham, Selsey and Willowhale. These were
divided into four groups. Four mats were put down so
each team played three games against the other three in their group. The winner of each group
              progressed to the Semi-Final.
It was a bitterly cold day as snow had fallen the night be-
fore and the hall was not very warm but this did not deter the
players. There was keen competition with excellent bowling
              from everyone.
In the first Semi-Final Team 3 from Selsey played Team
5 from North Mundham. North Mundham played well but were
beaten into second place. In the second Semi-Final Team 10
from Selsey played Team 14 also from Selsey. This match was
keenly fought with Team 10 winning by 1 point.
The Final was equally nail-biting between the two Selsey
teams and right up to the last end could have gone either way.
                                                                                       Finalists Sue Farrell,
With the final bowl, Team 3 were the eventual winners. John Ballinger and
                           Annette Iskett Maureen Darvill
