8 JENNY ORPIN FOURS
JENNY ORPIN FOURS
Congratulations to Woodlands in winning
the Jenny Orpin Memorial Trophy. A great
day had by everyone. Sixteen teams
were entered which were split into two
groups with Woodlands coming out the
overall winners with 11pts & Burham from
Kent second with 10pts.
Woodlands were overjoyed win-
WINNERS WOODLANDS ning the first ever event of the Jenny
Orpin Trophy & put in a strong team con-
sisting of Dominic & Nigel Reed, Mat & Dave Sifford. Not all the teams won their matches which
showed the standing of bowling. After the
match Woodlands said they were so
pleased to win this, this was a credit to
Jenny who was a very popular person
amongst the bowlers in Essex & other coun-
ties, Burham who finished second consisted
of Jan & Jim Davey, Dave Kruse & Bob
Deane.
Woodlands started off winning their RUNNERS-UP BURHAM
first four games 10-1, 9-4, 7-5 &10-1, but
there nearest rivals were Nomads, Burham & Stonyhills who all had lost one game each. In the
next set of games Woodlands drew 5-5 with O.C.B.C, Nomads beat Sanguine 2 10-3, Stonyhill
beat West Hanningfield 9-3 & Burham
beat Sanguine 1 7-5.
This meant that going into the last
game Woodlands were one point in front
of their 3 rivals. Nomads lost their final
game while both Stonyhill & Burham
won their games but Woodlands made
sure there was no slip up with a re-
sounding 17- 0 win. Burham in the end
snatched 2nd place with a shot differ-
ence of +22 shots compared to Stony-
hills +18 shots. We thank Barry & Mel
Dillon from Warman Leisure Holidays for
donating the trophy, Barry & Mel have
known Jenny for many years, being very
good friends.
The kitchen staff kept the players
fed all day with regular rounds of bacon
rolls in the morning and at lunch time a
sumptuous Roast Beef Dinner, so a big
thank you goes to all the kitchen staff
(Sicknote, Leslie & Paul C). Also big
thanks to the umpire of the day Terry
Matthews. For more info on forthcoming
competitions go to East Hanningfield
