East Devon & District Jurassic Bowls 2nd Annual Triples 5
East Devon & District Jurassic Bowls 2nd Annual Triples
Cloakham Lawns
played host to this com-
petition, with 24 teams of
three players, in round
robin games of 10 ends
were played throughout
the morning.
There were some
very tough games and
some tight results, the
winners of each group
and 2 highest runner up’s
went on to play quarter
final.
Uffculme’s, Richard
David Haylor East Devon Chairman (centre) with Williams and team faced
Winners Sidbury (right) and Runner’s up Beer (left) Beer’s Peter Sydenham
and team, Beer led
strongly from the beginning of game, leaving no chance for Uffculme. Combe St Nicholas, Harry
Platt and team faced Biddisham’s Geoff Nutty and team, again Biddisham got off to a good start,
again not leaving the opposing team with too big a hill to climb.
Uffculme’s Alan George and team faced Winkleigh’s Lorraine Axtell and team, this was a
very tight affair going one way then the other, but Uffculme won the last two ends giving them
victory. The last quarter final saw Colyton’s Peter Morgan and team face Sidbury’s Eric Pavey
and team. After 4 ends Sidbury was 10 – 2 down, but by the 10th end Sidbury had pulled back
and the score was 14 all, this meant an extra end, Colyton took the jack, after the skip had bowled
his last bowl, he was holding shot, but Sidbury’s Eric Pavey still had a bowl to go, and with only
a small space to get in, he drew the bowl to take shot, making Sidbury the winners.
The Semi-final was played with Beer against Biddisham, with Beer comfortably taking vic-
tory, and Sidbury against Uffculme, with Sidbury comfortably taking victory. The final was then
set between Beer and Sidbury, the start of the game was a “topsy turvey” affair, but by the fifth
end Sidbury took control and completed a well-deserved win.

POT HOLING OR BOWLING?
POT HOLING OR BOWLING?
It went like this, I had been nagging Arthur for months to get rid
of some concrete rubble. Remembering we were bowling in the
above Jurrasic tournament, he thought Ah! To get to the venue,
drivers have to negotiate some deep potholes down the long
driveway.
With his thinking cap on, Arthur loaded up the car with
bowling bags and 6 bags of rubble. With road diversions along
the way, we arrived with only minutes to spare and no time to fill
in the potholes. Not to be outdone, Arthur nipped out between
games to go hole filling but alas, 6 bags was not enough for all
the potholes. Janet asked are you pot holing or bowling, Arthur
replied give me bowling every time - and so say all of us!
Janet Cuff
(Ed - I am very familiar with the driveway and the potholes and I must say Arthur, can you
bring more rubble the next time so that you can complete your potholing!)
