LANGSTONE CLIFF HOTEL SHORT MAT FESTIVAL
The opening evenings after dinner bowls drive was a
fours event, which was won by the all-ladies team of Ann
Mollard, Alison Eastgate, Anthea Bell & Patricia Sansom
taking the “Sweeties” with an overall 8 shots advantage.
At the singles quarter final stage, Barry Taylor got
the better of previous winner Joyce Howe by 8 - 5. Brian
Eastgate won by a similar scoreline over Michael
Knowles. Previous finalist John Horsham edged home
9 - 6 against Jan Britton Completing the round Brian
Latham beat Brian Clarke 7 - 4.
Brian could not repeat his win in the semi-finals,
losing 5 - 8 to Brian Eastgate. John Horsham made it to
Singles winner John Horsham his second final at the Langstone with a 9 - 4 win over
with Brian Eastgate
Barry Taylor.
The final was very hotly contested, after five ends John Horsham led 5 - 1 but four ends later he
was 5 - 7 down to Brian Eastgate. However, two two’s on the closing ends gave John a 9 - 7 vic-
tory.
At the quarter final stages of the Triples, Sandra Odams, Patrick Ferguson & Brian Clarke
recorded a comfortable 9 - 1 win over Janet Ellis, Edwin Cleave & Bert Westcott. John Buckle,
Ray Screen & Mike Allen also scored 9 shots against the six from Alan Riley, Harvey Burt & Tina
Napper.
The same 9 - 6 result came from Gordon Carbin, Gwen Clarke & Anthea Bell who beat Mary
Burt, Dot Lucas & Michael Bell. Finishing the round Martin Booth, Dudley Edgar & David Collins
beat Mary Wyatt, Mary & Barry Taylor 8 - 3. Martin, Dudley & David had a great semi-final tussle
with John Buckle, Ray Screen & Mike Allen but the latter edged through 7 - 5.
