The Mid Ulster section of the national cham-
pionships proved to be a good night for
members of Cookstown High who earlier in
the day had been surprisingly eliminated
from the Galway Bay Irish Club Champi-
onship.
In the rinks Mark Wilson, Dayne Jor-
dan, Glen Smith and Colin Hogg came back
from an early deficit when they were not
playing well to overtake the fancied Cook-
stown Parochial rink of Colum McHugh,
Damian McElroy, Liam McHugh and Brigid
Davidson.
In the triples Cookstown High's John
McKay, Malcolm Cunningham and Johnny
Shepherd looked dead and buried against
Moortown's Martin Crozier, Eugene Kelly
and Tommy Quinn but somehow scrambled
a 4 on the last end when they were 3 down
to scrape throug in the pairs
Cookstown High's Chris McKnight and
Colin Hogg proved too strong for Seamus
McGlinchey and Tommy Johnston while
Parochial's Colum McHugh and brother
Liam were too good for club mates Damian
McElroy and Aaron Ward.
In the singles Dayne Jordan Cook-
stown High, Martin Crozier Moortown and
Tom Montgomery qualified
In the Ladies championships Brigid
Davidson defeated Maghera's Shiela Ander-
son to qualify in the singles. Shiela Anderson
and Mildred Martin Maghera Pres qualified
in the pairs while in the triples Brigid Davi-
son, Denise McHugh and Melissa Davidson
came out on top.
In the over 55 competition, It was the
Maghera Pres combination of Robin Clark
and Shiela Ander-
son who scored a
last bowl win over
Gerry McHugh
and Robert As-
pinal of Cook-
stown Parochial to
qualify.
