           I.C.I.C.Y.M.A. Bowls Club staged their Annual Triples Competition for the
           I.C.I.C.Y.M.A. Perpetual Shield which was once again a great success and
           attracted an entry of 90-teams (270-players) from all the leading clubs over
           a wide area and held in the Garryduff Sports Centre, Rochestown, Co. Cork.
                 There were many surprise results throughout the Tournament with the
           qualifying sessions held over four nights from Tuesday to Friday, with the lat-
           ter stages being completed on the Saturday.

           Completing the semi-final line-up Valerie Jennings, Sam Jennings & Skip Elizabeth Jennings of
           Cox’a Hall beat M. Boyde, S. O’Leary & M. Sisk of Ballincollig GAA.
                 In the semi-finals Glounthaune (Joe Kirby led his team to victory over Grange/Frankfield’s
           Siobhan Breen, Phyllis Long & John Long. In the other semi skip Elizabeth Jennings also guided
           her triple  into the final over Glenview’s Jerry Nott, Con O’Connell & Tony Stokes.
                 In the nine end final, Cox’s Hall opened with a single only for Glounthaune to strike back with
           a four, followed up by two singles for a 6 - 1 lead. Cox’s Hall closed the gap with two singles of
           their own but were still down 3 - 6. At this point Glounthaune stepped up a gear and scored a two
           and a three take an unassailable 11 - 3 lead and the match finished with a no score end to leave
           Glounthaune’s Marie Triggs, Tony O’Shea & Joe Kirby as comfortable winners over Cox’s Hall’s
           Valerie Jennings, Sam Jennings & Skip Elizabeth Jennings as runners-up, still a great feat from
           90 entries.
                 The Umpires on duty for the final session were Richard Dowling, Michael J. O’Shaughnessy,
           Dean Foley, Martin Bracken & Betty Shellard. The prizes were presented by Betty Shellard and
           also the Perpetual Trophy to Joe Kirby, the Skip of the Glounthaune team.

           The Barrs Bowls Club staged their Annual Licensed Triples Competition for the Barrs Perpetual
           Trophy which ran over 7 days. 336 players in 112 teams entered this highly successful event and
           included entries from all the leading clubs.
                 At the semi-final stage Conna Skip Adrian Tanner led his team to victory over Douglas GAA’s
           Aidan Delea, Tom Burns & Danny Twohig, whilst Saint Mary’s on the Hill, John O’Connell, Dean
           Foley & Annette O’Connell beat Sacred Heart’s Gretta Marley, Peg & Chris Aherne. .
                 In the final played over nine ends, Conna opened with a three but their opponents responded
           with two singles. In the fourth and fifth ends Conna scored a single and a three to lead by five
           shots (7/2) but Saint Mary’s on the Hill scored a two in the sixth end to reduce the lead (7/4) but
           Conna countered with a single in the seventh end. In thrilling finish Saint Mary’s on the Hill scored
           a single and a two and came up just a single shot short to leave Conna victors by a single shot.
                 The prizes were presented by Tim Healy the Barrs Club Captain, who also presented the
           Perpetual Trophy to Adrian Tanner, the Skip of the winning team. The Umpires on duty for the final
           session were Michael J. O’Shaughnessy, Jack Murphy, Hazel Foley, Hazel Payne and Eddie Mills.
