Norfolk Memorial Pairs
6 Norfolk Memorial Pairs
The NCSMBA Memorial Charity Pairs was held at Hingham
Sports & Social Club where Kerry Greenacre of Haddiscoe
and Keith Cooke of Halvergate cruised to a superb 10-1 win
in the final against Wymondham’s Billie & Melvyn Barker.
In the semi-finals they beat County Council’s Lewis &
Owen Cranston by 11-5 while in the other semi-final the Bark-
ers beat Morris Taylor & Gill Coleman of Diss 14-2. All pro-
ceeds from the event will be donated to the winners chosen
charity Arthritis Research.
The Memorial Pairs, held in memory of all Norfolk
bowlers no longer with us, had not been held for a couple of
years because of date restrictions but it is hoped that the
competition will now once again be
held annually.
The day did not start well
when Competition Secretary Chris
Mann was unable to attend, due to
his fiancée Laura Hawksworth
being taken ill, and Assistant Com-
petition Secretary Jon Sparham
found himself suddenly in the hot
Pairs Winners seat.

Nigel Willard won a fourth county pairs title with a fourth
different partner, as he lead for fellow Bob Carter team
member Jamie Forster beating Owen Cranston and
Chris Mann 11-9 in an entertaining final.
The Bob Carter duo scored three shots on the first
end but Cranston and Mann replied with a full house
four on end two. A single saw their lead increased to 5-
3 but the pair failed to go on and instead dropped the
next four ends by 1,2,2,2 with lead Willard playing
well giving him and Forster a strong 10-5 lead with just
three ends remaining.
Cranston and Mann were not going down without
a fight and two braces bought the score back to within one going into the last end at 10-9. The last
end saw Mann play a good attacking shot to give them hope with both Cranston's back woods
holding but an even better forcing plant shot played by Forster saw Willard's toucher go into the
ditch to take shot and give them a deserved win.
The third fourth playoff saw Laura Hawksworth and Neil Davidson come from 6-1 down to
beat one half of last year’s champions Kerry Greenacre with Keith Cooke 7-6. It was a good day
for Hawksworth who will be making her first national appearance in April with the vastly experi-
enced Neil Davidson. The semi-finals saw a tight match between Willard, Forster , Hawksworth &
Davidson losing on the last end by one shot at 12-11 while Cranston and Mann stormed to a 14-
4 win against Memorial pairs winners Greenacre and Cooke. Quarter final results were N. David-
son 10 T. Newby 7, C. Mann 9 S. Bragg 4, S. Willies 3 K. Cooke 15 and S. Lamb 3 J. Forster 15.
