Warners Isle-of-Wight venue once again staged its
Short Mat Autumn Tournament with three different
disciplines, Pairs, 2-Bowl Singles and Triples, with
each event starting on a round robin basis to max-
imise games.
Two Semi-final round robin groups saw both
Tony Gepp and Graham James reach the final unde-
feated. On the opening end of the final Tony Gepp
took first Blood with a single and followed this up with
another. Graham James struck back with a two and
Pairs Finalist Graham James a single to lead 3 - 2.
with Champion Tony Gepp At this point Tony seemed to find another gear
and despite very close and hard fought ends with four consecutive singles to lead 6 - 3. This
left Graham needing to score as there were just two ends left to play but Tony managed to score
a two to close out the final 8 - 3 with the last end unplayed. Graham also lost in last year’s final
but showed his great consistency in making consecutive finals However, Graham was not done
yet with the Triples to come.
Along with partners Lorraine Axtell and Barry
Hayward, Graham and co. romped home 13 - 3 in
their Quarter final. Roy Best, Olive & Clive Beaumont
also had a comfortable 10 - 4 victory. Audrey Fowler,
John Donelan & Jeffrey Branch won 9 - 5 but Mar-
garet Webster, Tony Gepp & Sheila King were
pushed hard by Brian Fowler, Colin Jones & Alexis
Mack, with the former trio winning 6 - 4.
In the semi-finals Margaret, Tony & Sheila met
Barry, Lorraine & Graham, with the latter winning 8 -
4. In the other semi-final a very tight battle ensued
with Audrey Fowler, John Donelan & Jeffrey Branch
edging home 5 - 4.
The final turned out to be somewhat one-sided
with Lorraine Axtell, Barry Hayward & Graham Seated Triples Champions
James in absolutely sparkling form and despite all Graham James, Lorraine Axtell
the effort of Audrey Fowler, John Donelan & Jeffrey & Barry Hayward with finalists

ers from winning 11 - 3 with an end unplayed.
In the Pairs Quarter finals Alan & Brenda Hutty pro-
gressed with a 9 - 4 victory. Sylvia Payne & David Gilraine
also won by 10 - 5. Meanwhile Tony Gepp & Sheila King
edged home 7 - 6 over Audrey & Brian Fowler. By the
same scoreline Dennis Mack & Malcolm Petrie snatched
a two on the last end to put out favourite Lorraine Axtell &
Graham James 7 - 6.
Dennis & Malcolm then edged out Tony Gepp &
Sheila King 8 - 7 with another last end score this time a
Pairs winners Malcolm Petrie single but this was part of a seven shot, 4 end run from 1 -
and Dennis Mack 7 down.
