6 In the Pairs final round it was all to play for as anyone could take the title with everyone on
2 points, even outsiders England could win with a big enough scoreline. Ireland were
favourites with a shots plus of 11, whilst Scotland were minus 2 and Wales minus 3 shots
           with England minus 6.
In the event it was the Scotland v England match that decided the event with Scotland’s Alan
Eddie & Jimmy Broatch romping home 18 - 9 over England. Wales’ Paul & Andrew Hudson tried
hard and beat Ireland 16 - 12 but this left them plus 1 to Scotland’s plus 7 and the rest nowhere.
This was Scotland’s first ever British Isles title and they are to heartily congratulated.

           IRISH TRIO TAKE THE TRIPLES
In the Triples event England were represented by Simon White, James Neal & Gareth Stanway,
with the latter having previously won the singles in 2002. The Welsh trio against England were
Chris, Henry & Mike John, who after nine ends led 7 - 6 in what up to that point had been a very

                                                                            win.

Kenny McPherson, Jill & Chris Mac

                                                                            1 - 4- 1 sequence to lead 16 - 7 and
                                                                            eventually won 17 - 9.

In the second round England edged home 12 - 10 in a hard fought match over Scotland. Ire-
land meanwhile were handing out a 17 - 8 beating to Wales, although at one point the Welsh were
only 6 - 7 down with nine ends played but were rapidly undone near the end.
In the final round Ireland were firmly in control having two wins under their belt. Two points
against England would leave them on 6 points and ensure a clean sweep of victories. David Craw-
ford, Eddie Curran & John Quinn duly opened up with a five against England’s Simon White, James
Neal & Gareth Stanway. However, by end 5 England had closed the gap to just one shot behind
and by end 8 the score stood at 7 - 7.
Phew! What a battle and England needed to win in order to match Ireland on points but they
were well down on overall shots difference. The game was still level by end 12 with just three to
play a two for Ireland put them in front but a single for England left all to play for on the final end
but a single to Ireland ensured their championship victory with a 13 - 11 result. Wales meanwhile
took second place with a 14 - 10 victory over Scotland.

IRELAND ARE TOP DOGS IN THE FOURS
The fours saw Ireland’s Seamus McMath, Tommy Mullan, Barry Kane & Uel McKeeman, with the
latter having won the Pairs in 2002 and 2009. At one point the Scottish four of Anne Matroni, Zoe
Haining, Raymond Hill & Robert McNeil were just 5 - 6 down but seven shots over the next five
