Ireland’s best result came from Mark Beattie, Lee Harrison, Alan Paul & John Quinn. after a quiet
start England’s David Newsome, Steve Packer, John Pitcher & Gareth Stanway led 3 - 1 but a
stunning five for Ireland put them in front and they followed this up with 10 shots over the following
four ends to lead 16 - 3. England took the next three ends but a final end 3 to Ireland gave them
a 19 - 7 result. The other games were relatively close with Ireland’s Gordon Stubbs, David Morri-
son, Ryan O’Neal & Raymond Stubbs won 13 - 11 having led 13 - 6 at one stage only for Mitchell
Young, Ben Pay, Adam Sultana & Dominic Reed to fight back over the closing three ends.
Ireland’s final result was a 12 - 8 win by Lynn Hamilton, Patrick McCrossan, Eddie Curran &
Kevin Conroy over England’s Jacinta Townend , Matt Sifford, David & Roger Wiggins. The final
result was a 57 - 44 win for Ireland with most of the difference coming from England’s 7 - 19 rink.
In the Wales v Scotland match, Wales won all four rinks, the biggest win was a 20 - 6 result
from Chris McWhinnie, Graham Davies, Arwel Morgan & Jonathan Gladstone. Next best was a
17 - 8 from Gethin Davies, Arwel Nicholas, Andrew Evans & Stephen Williams with the latter having
won the World Singles twice along with the British Isles Singles and Pairs.
Following on from this Jamie Coffey, Dorian Hudson, Ceri Jones & Martyn Davies recorded
a 13 - 5 result. Completing the line-up Aled Humphreys, Jac Edwards, Andrew jones & Allan Slat-
tery snatched a last end 11 - 8 victory from 8 across over Willie Mair, Robert Lenza, Paul Geddis
& Lawrence Moffat who recorded Scotland’s closest score. The final result was 61 - 27 to Wales.
The second round clash between England and Wales is sometimes a hotbed but this year
England had too much for the Welsh and won three of the four rinks. England’s top scorers were
Mitchell Young, Ben Pay, Adam Sultana & Skip Dominic Reed who eased home 16 - 6 with the
damage being done on ends 5 and 6 with England scoring a 6 and then a four. For Wales top
player Steve Williams led his rink of Gethin Davies, Arwel Nicholas & Andrew Evans to a narrow
           13 - 12 result in a cracking game.
England’s Jacinta Townend , Matt Sifford, David & Roger Wiggins started and finished well
with a two and a four on the opening ends and a three and a two on the closing ends after Aled
Humphreys, Jac Edwards, Andrew Jones & Allan Slattery had levelled the score with just the last
           two ends to play.
in the remaining game Chris McWhinnie, Graham Davies, Arwel Morgan & Jonathan Gladstone
started well for Wales and led 5 - 2 after five ends but Steve Proctor, Andrew Beard, Ben Render
& Grant Soller gradually levelled and went ahead, finally winning 10 - 6.
