McWhinnie, Graham Davies,
Arwel Morgan & Jonathan Glad-
stone started well for Wales and led 5 -
2 after five ends but Steve Proctor, An-
drew Beard, Ben Render & Grant
Soller gradually levelled and went
ahead, finally winning 10 - 6.
Having warmed up against England,
the Irish team were in devastating form
against Scotland. Ireland’s best result
was a 21 - 4 from Pauline Beattie, Mark
Wilson, John Wilson & Colm McHugh,
who opened up with a five and a three.
Next best was a 24 - 8 to Mark

on the last end doubled the scots
score. Also scoring 24 shots Gordon Stubbs, David Morrison, Ryan O’Neal & Raymond Stubbs
conceded just 9 shots, 5 of which were on the opening end and they scored consecutive fives
themselves.
For Scotland, Willie Mair, Robert Lenza, Paul Geddis & Lawrence Moffat did well winning 6
ends of their 12 end game but conceded too many shots on their losing ends, which saw Lynn
Hamilton, Patrick McCrossan, Eddie Curran & Kevin Conroy get home 19 - 9.
The third and final round of matches saw undefeated Ireland facing Wales, with Ireland firmly
in the driving seat. No huge scores but some decent margins for Ireland. From 5 across after 7
ends Gordon Stubbs, David Morrison, Ryan O’Neal & Raymond Stubbs ran away with their game
and eventually won17 - 6. Also doing well, Mark Beattie, Lee Harrison, Alan Paul & John Quinn
were being held at one stage but found another gear to win 16 - 6.
Pauline Beattie, Mark Wilson, John Wilson & Colm McHugh were made to work hard by Chris
McWhinnie, Graham Davies, Arwel Morgan & Jonathan Gladstone but the Irish four got home 10
- 7 after being 6 - 7 down with just two ends to play. Making sure there was no whitewash Aled
Humphreys, Jac Edwards, Andrew Jones & Allan Slattery won their game 13 - 11 over Lynn Hamil-
ton, Patrick McCrossan, Eddie Curran &
Kevin Conroy, who scored a 4 on the clos-
ing end to partly close the gap. The over-
all result was 54 - 32 to Ireland.
With no chance of winning the team
championship, a relaxed but disappointed
England inflicted a 55 - 31 defeat of Scot-
land. In a somewhat see-saw game Eng-
land’s Jacinta Townend, Matt Sifford,
David & Roger Wiggins found themselves
0 - 8 down after just three ends against
Willie Mair, Robert Lenza, Paul Geddis &
Lawrence Moffat but gradually clawed
their way back into the game and were
just 9 - 10 down with two ends to go but
