Sometimes it’s a shame someone has to 41
lose when they have tried so hard. However
we were brought up in an age when we were
taught to be good losers, well, losers anyway!
It becomes difficult at times to write a report
which is interesting and I expect, by now, all you
wanted to know is just who won.

ESMBA AGM
The following are short extracts from the AGM minutes as
published on the ESMBA’s website at www.esmba.co.uk
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013
The venue for next year Nationals is Bromsgrove Indoor Bowling Cen-
tre. It is cheaper than Kempston with better facilities including office
space, outdoor smoking area, internet access and TV screen and in-
creased parking space. The playing area is 6 rinks as opposed to the 8 at
Kempston but will still hold 24 mats. National entry forms will still be sent manually as they
are colour coded for distinction between disciplines and it also ensures the forms are re-
ceived.
REGISTERED PLAYERS
John Jackson reported an overall fall of almost 800 in the number of players registered.
Various counties advised on how they are trying to raise participation in their areas. Not
possible to give a full breakdown of the age ranges as the information is still not forthcoming
from the membership.
COMMITTEE VOTING
It was proposed that the committee’ individual votes be reduced. The rationale was that
with the Management Committee having a vote each they could in theory cast a block vote
and swing a close result against the wish of the majority of delegates. The counter argument
was that there was a potential for 72 votes if all counties sent their maximum 2 delegates
compared to just 10 votes if the committee did all vote together. It was pointed out that the
only time there was a block vote was for a proposal put forward by the ESMBA committee.
A vote was taken and after a recount the result was For: 20. Against: 20. Abstentions: 5.
As a 2/3rds majority is required to amend the constitution, the proposition was not carried.
(ED - 20 of the ESMBA’s 36 counties were represented by 37 delegates at this year’s AGM.)
REGISTRATION FEE
A proposal was put forward to reduce the the annual subscription and after a discussion
and a recount the outcome was For: 21. Against: 20. Abstentions: 4. Thus the proposition
carried, so the registration fee for 2013/14 will be reduced to £3.00.
