25 teams entered the Triples at Barton le Clay with
5 groups of 5 and only the 5 group winners and 3
best runners up to qualify for the quarter finals.
In Group A, the triple of J Greaves from Maulden went
through unbeaten on 8 pts leaving A Hatton (Turvey) to wait
and see if 6 pts and +28 shots would be enough to qualify.
In Group B With 3 wins and a draw H Ball (Colmworth)
topped the group on 7 pts but the drawn game with D Walker
(Clophill) meant that they would need to beat S Macdonald
                   Triples Champions
Triples Champions (Cotton End) to finish as runner up they did with an 11-7 vic-

Group C saw the Turvey team of M Rogers were flying
with 4 wins and scoring 47 shots in 4 games leaving W Redding (Cotton End), P Lovell (Clophill)
and R Pearson (Silsoe) all on 4 pts, Silsoe were runners-up
by having a 6-shot difference. In Group D, A Denton (Tod-
dington) was topping the group on 7 pts, G Buttrum (Cotton
End) could take the group with a win and good score but a
6-9 defeat left them on 5 pts and 0 shot difference.
In Group E, N Rixon (Barton) was on 7 pts. A win in the
final game saw A Speake (Clophill) finish on 5 pts and +6 to
finish as runner-up. Thus, the top 3 runners up were A Hatton
(Turvey), D Walker (Clophill) and A Speake (Clophill).
At the Quarter Finals stage J Greaves of Maulden
faced Barton’s N Rixon. Barton were 5-1 up after 3 ends then
                                                                                       Triples Finalists
6 more unanswered shots saw Barton 11-1 up and finishing Triples Finalists
                                                                                  Lesley Nunn, Neil Rixon
up 11-3 winners. H Ball of Colmworth was pitted against A Lesley Nunn, Neil Rixon
                                                                                       and Barrie Lunn
Hatton of Turvey. This game was close as after 4 ends it was and Barrie Lunn
3-3 but a 2 to Turvey and then a single to Colmworth made it 4 -5. Turvey then took 2 more
shots to win 4 -7. Toddington’s A Denton was drawn against A Speake of Clophill with Toddington
taking a 6-0 lead after 4 ends and despite losing 3 singles in the last 3 ends by Clophill they
could not get back in to the match, leaving Toddington as 6-3 winners.
The last quarter final saw M Rogers of Turvey facing Clophill’s D Walker. This game was
tit for tat as they shared shots leaving the score level on 5-5 after 7 ends. Despite a great effort
to ease the Turvey shot wood away, the jack left the mat giving Turvey a 7-5 win.
At the Semi-Final stage, N Rixon was drawn against A Hatton and after 3 ends Rixon’s
triple were 3-1 up, then 5-2 after 5 ends but 4 shots on the final 2 ends saw Barton ease into the
final. In the other semi, M Rogers played A Denton. This match was much closer as after 5 ends
the match stood at 4-4. Who would break the deadlock? Answer, no one, as a single each meant
an extra end was needed. In this sudden death finish, the Rogers team nicked a single to
              progress to the final.
The final saw the Barton team of Barrie & Lesley Nunn, Neil Rixon pitched against the Tur-
vey team of Dorothy Chambers, Mike Walker & Mick Rogers. On the first end the Barton triple
settled quickly, with Neil Rixon drawing his last wood in to take a stunning 5 shots to lead 5-0.
On end 2 - Turvey lead Dorothy Chambers finds the jack but Lesley Nunn moves the jack away
from 1. However, Mike Walker draws in a 2nd which is not moved to give Turvey 2 shots and a
2-5 scoreline. End 3 saw a single to the Turvey team cutting the deficit to two shots at 3-5.
On end 4, Mike Walker makes it 2 shots to Turvey which they eventually hold to level the
final 5-5 and all was to play for. On end 5 - Lesley Nunn managed to edge the Turvey shot wood
out but it was very close for shot neither skip can alter the head and the Barton trio take the
measure to go back into the lead at 6-5.
