Organization Structure and History
Growers Ice Company, a California Sub-S Corporation (GIC) is a multi-faceted entity with a
variety of Revenue sources. The subject owns 28.41 acres of industrial zoned land in
Salinas, California. The land was purchased in 1936 and developed soon thereafter. This
property contains 287,090 feet of multiple buildings that provide support services for local
agricultural companies.
The GIC predominant business is operating an ice manufacturing plant that sells ice-based
products to farming entities, cement processing companies, and commercial fishing
companies.
The subject operates a facility used for large-scale post harvest cooling of fruits and
vegetables. The cooler supports twenty-four cold storage rooms. The various cooling
processes utilized include vacuum cooling, pressure cooling, hydro- cooling, hydro-vacuum
cooling, ice making, and ice injection. Portable refrigeration systems are leased to farmers
on a seasonal basis in the United States and Mexico. The portable units consist of seventeen
portable ice generators; over twenty ice injector units, and storage trailers. The subject also
manufactures cooling and icing-related products sold to various industries.
In addition to operating cooling facilities, GIC also rents multiple facilities and office
buildings to both third party and related party farming entities. The company owns 100%
of Central Coast Cooling, is a 50/50 partner with Growers Street Cooling, 50/50 Partner in
Growers Custom Equipment and Merrill Western Company. The company acquired a
67,890 square foot cold storage facility in El Centro, California in November 2015 which is
leased to its wholly owned subsidiary Central Coast Cooling and owns a 36,346 +/- square
foot industrial facility on 4.69 acres at 1347 Harkins Road Salinas, California with a long-
term lease to Mann Packing company.
