The re-imagined Stevenson Hall will
bring together multiple academic
departments in a collaborative, modern
setting. Peeling away the original
concrete walls and enclosing an
underused courtyard with a glass roof
dissolves the building’s heaviness and
lends brightness to the interior spaces.
Lessons Learned
1 Look for potential opportunities to
re-use existing building features.
Existing precast panels were re-used
in our design.
2 Locate new structural work to allow
easy access for heavy equipment.
This will save on schedule and cost.
3 Be mindful of existing dropped
beams for simpler construction at top
of new partition and better acoustics.
