even if the employee agrees to something else, even if it
is in writing, and even if the employee is a sophisticated,
management level person.
The most important rules, at a glance, are:
Employees must be paid weekly or biweekly,
within six days of the end of the pay period,
meaning if a pay period ends on a Friday, the
employee must be paid no later than the Thursday
of the following week.
Employees who are exempt from overtime laws
(see above) may be paid monthly, if they so
choose, but still must be paid timely.
You may not deduct money from your employees’
paychecks except as specifically authorized under
the law. You may, of course, withhold taxes and
pre-tax payments for benefit plans, but should be
