A major problem is that there is not nearly
enough staff to keep up with demand. From May 1
to Nov 30 2018 there were 17 726 appointments
regarding mental health. How are a few dozen
therapists and even fewer psychiatrists supposed
to keep up with such a demand? As someone who
uses mental health services I can personally attest
to this phenomenon. I had an appointment with my
psychiatrist on February 11th this year. The next
of I can get to see him isn't until March 18th.
The major problem is not with the service that
is offered. Long wait times for students who are
dealing with acute mental health issues is
dangerous. Seeing a counselor or psychiatrist once
a month. This is simply insufficient. All the staff I
have dealt with is excellent and very professional,
