In 2018 the number of mental
health appointments made rose by 9%.
What is causing the increase for the
need of these services? How is the
system supposed to keep up with this
demand when only 44% of the
recommendations to improve it have
been implemented? Is the university's
bottom line always money, leaving the
welfare of its students to come
second? If this is in fact the case the
powers that be should be ashamed of
themselves, as one suicide is too many.
Drastic action is needed now to
prevent further tragedies from
occurring. I also believe that the stress
level of taking a full course load is
exceptionally high, and that the
university needs to acknowledge that
and provide better support.
