How to Verify United Healthcare

When verifying United Healthcare insurance, you will call UHC Provider Services and can view
an outline of the benefits through the online portal. In addition to obtaining benefits from UHC,
you must check to see if authorization is required through Optum by performing a quick group
check via online or phone.

To obtain benefits via phone:
1. Call UHC Provider Services at 877-842-3210
2. Enter Tax ID #
3. Say Benefits & Eligibility or press 2
4. Enter the patient’s 9-digit member ID #
5. Enter the patient’s date of birth
6. You are calling about Medical Health
7. You want the automated to tell you a summary (can also request a fax if necessary)
8. Listen through Deductibles
9. When you have retrieved all possible information from the automated system, say
“Something else” or “Representative” to be connected to a representative

To perform an Optum Quick Group Check via phone:
1. Call 888-329-5182:
2. Enter Tax ID #
3. Does the group # contain a letter? Answer Yes or No
4. Say or enter the patient’s group #
5. The automation will state if clinical submission to Optum is or is not required

Reminder! Any correspondence with insurance representatives must be detailed as a Chart
Note in the patient’s WebPT chart and should include the representative’s name and a call
reference number.
