Page 154 - Creeative Thinking
P. 154

When you are trying to decide if something is fact or fiction, try to examine it with
regard to just because. Is it true just because someone said it is? If you still can’t
decide to believe or not to believe try to look at it from both perspectives. Make
yourself a chart or a list of the pros and cons of the situation. You will see by looking
at your chart whether or not to believe the statement (just because).

This brings us to the next point for discussion. It is in regards to the futility of
argument. Arguing over “the truth” is almost always completely senseless. Worse
yet, is arguing over opinions or different perceptions of the truth. This is an absolute
waste of time. It is equally ineffectual to engage in an argument in an attempt to
change somebody’s opinion of you. People believe want they want to believe and even
the most highly skilled lawyer cannot change that.

When it comes right down to it, perceptions differ and opinions vary, but the truth
remains the same. As the truth is constant, no amount of arguing over opinions or
perspective will ever change it. The truth is and will always be the truth. For this
reason, arguing is not only a waste of time, but also a waste of energy. The only thing
one can hope to accomplish when becoming engaged in a heated debate is creating
                   negativity.

So, when you take part in argumentative conversations, it really doesn’t matter how
strongly you feel about a certain issue. Whether you are right or wrong, you are
creating negative energy simply by debating the facts. We know from our work in the
early chapters of this guide how destructive negative energy can be. And we also
know that, although you can convert energy from negative to positive, it does take
                   some effort.

The negativity created when two people argue is quite superfluous. This is because,
even after great attempts at persuading your opponent, the truth remains the same.
The one thing that you have succeeded in changing, however, is the energy
surrounding that truth. Arguing is a sure-fire way to convert positive energy forces in
to negativity in a hurry. So, if you can, bite your tongue the next time the opportunity
for a good debate presents itself.
