P. 76
Visualisations are one of the most important tools we can use to help us find answers
to questions about the meaning of life and your higher purpose. They can be used, as
well to clarify some of the goals you may wish to aspire to and visualisations can
sometimes help us find important secrets that each of us hide from even ourselves.
Visualisation is such a valuable tool in such instances; many therapists and educators
use them regularly in their day-to-day dealings with others. They have a number of
invaluable applications and can offer valuable insights to questions that many of us
may otherwise not be able to find answers to.
The key to visualisation is a good imagination. That really is the only prerequisite. If
you can close your eyes and imagine a specific scenario, then you, too will be able to
use visualisation as a positive life changing technique. We will delve further in to this
process in coming chapters, but for now just know that there are many valuable tools
to help you make the change to your life that you desire and deserve.
When working on an Action Plan, some of us may tend to become overwhelmed by
the details. Do not despair if you are feeling this way somewhat. This is quite a
normal reaction. And this is the point in our journey where many of us give up as a
result of the sheer magnitude of the undertaking. Just try to relax and take things a
little piece at a time. Sometimes a monumentally event is easier to tackle if you break
it in to its smaller pieces.
Some therapists use a technique called the SALAMI APPROACH when dealing with
seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The concept is really quite simple. Look at a
chub of salami. It would be impossible for a person to swallow the entire chub of
salami, right? But if that same chub were sliced in to several smaller pieces, you would
have no trouble eating it one small bite at a time.
So the next time you feel overwhelmed by a large undertaking remember the SALAMI
APPROACH and tackle it one bite at a time.
The worksheets provided at the end of this chapter will help you keep all of the
miscellaneous details in order. A journal can also be a useful tool in changing negative
life patterns as well as a great opportunity to vent your thoughts, and emotions. A
journal can also be a wonderful way to start to build a relationship with your self.
