A fraction is a number that stands for a part or parts of a whole object or a
               collection of objects.

               ONE WHOLE

Here are some examples of a whole.

                                                          1 WHOLE STRIP

1 WHOLE CAKE 1 WHOLE CHOCOLATE BAR 1 WHOLE APPLE

                                     1
               ONE-HALF 2

When we divide an object into two equal parts, each part is called one-half of

                                                                  1
the whole object. We write one-half as and read it as one by two or one
                                                                  2
               upon two.

Iqbal and Zoya came home from school. They found only
one apple to eat. So, their mother cut the apple in two

equal parts and gave one part to each to eat. We can 1 WHOLE APPLE
say that she gave one-half of the apple to each.

                                      1
               ONE-THIRD 3 ONE-HALF ONE-HALF

When we divide an object into three equal parts, each part is called one-third
                                                                      1
of the whole object. We write one-third as and read it as one by three or one
                                                                      3
               upon three.

                                                                116
   111   112   113   114   115   116   117   118   119   120   121
