Amal Hussein is a member of Barings’ Compli-
ance Group, responsible for administering com-
pliance training, advising on ad hoc compliance
queries and completing aspects of the firm’s
compliance monitoring plan. Amal has worked in
the industry since 2017, the year she started at
the firm. She holds an undergraduate degree in
Law from the University of Kent and a master’s in
Financial Regulation and Compliance LLM from
BPP Law School.

Daughter of a Greek immigrant to the US and a farm-
er boy from Tennessee. I read Law & Politics at the
University of Edinburgh, trained at the Magic Circle
law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, spent over
7 years at the US firm Latham & Watkins before join-
ing Wall Street firm Davis Polk & Wardwell as Euro-
pean Counsel where I am the most senior female in
the UK practice. Currently, I am on a client second-
ment to the legal team at Goldman Sachs. Having
spent over 12 years in Big Law and recently become
a mother, I am a passionate advocate for women in Ariel White-Tsimikalis
corporate finance and a firm believer in the “Shine European Counsel
Theory” – when you help others rise, we all shine.
