It has been a very busy, but overall positive start to Term 2 across the Primary and ELC at VISS!
There have been a number of significant beyond the classroom events in the first half of this term, which have
provided real life learning experiences for the students. These events have continued to strengthen community
engagement and partnerships – something you know we are focused on and I am very passionate about.
School events require a significant amount of time, effort and energy being invested, to ensure they are successful.
Thank you to the students, staff and families for their efforts and contribution to some of our recent events:
Grandparents and Special Visitors Day
Australia Day Sausage Sizzle
Grade 3 Sleepover
Grade 2 Excursion to the Courtyard Playhouse
Annual Book Fair
After some recent cool and windy weather, we were very fortunate to have warm and sunny conditions for our
Annual House Athletics. I was so proud of these events and felt that the three days visibly displayed our school
values, in particular Community, Diversity and Excellence. I was very impressed with the passion and sportsmanship
the students displayed, which ensured it was a fun sporting carnival. I would like to thank our PE team and the
wider staff for their efforts, which ensured the days were successful and memorable for the students. I would also
like to thank our Sports Captains and the Year 9 students, who provided valuable assistance to ensure the events
ran smoothly and our younger students felt supported. For those students in Grade 3 – 5, who have progressed
through to the EISSA championships, I wish you the best of luck and know you will represent yourself, your family
and VISS with pride.
As part of our Inquiry-based curriculum this term, we have been focusing on Human Expression. To celebrate this
learning, our Grade 1 students are inviting families in for their Human Expression Expo on the 12th February. Tickets
are also on sale and selling fast, for the Grade 5 production ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ which is being performed on
the 18th and 19th February. This will be a fun-filled family event and one not to be missed.
I would also like to wish our Grade 4 campers, a safe and enjoyable time as they prepare to head off to North Star,
Fujairah on the 12th and 13th February.
The ELC have recently partnered with the Sharjah Government, which will see them leading a six week mentoring
program for local nursery staff. This partnership is a reflection of our teachers in the ELC and we are humbled to be
supporting and improving teaching practices across the Sharjah emirate. Reshma and her team are also making
arrangements for our first ‘Stay and Play’ session which will be held on the 20th February.
Recently, I spoke at our Grade 4 and 5 assembly about our school uniform and the importance of wearing the
correct uniform each day. Uniforms help unite us as a team and the expectation is this is worn each day. I appreciate
the communities support with this and if you are unsure or have any queries, please contact your child’s teacher or
a member of the leadership team.
I’d like to wish our fantastic school community a positive and productive finish to Term 2.
