Director’s Message Forthcoming Events
2018 witnessed the Bandaranaike Centre for International BCIS Emerging Scholars Symposium ‘18
Studies embarking on new ventures and engagements,
building on its success from 2017. BCIS successfully BCIS - Indonesia Embassy Seminar on
consolidated its core education, public outreach and research Reconciliation
programme and simultaneously introduced new dynamic and
innovative academic programmes and forums to expand its BCIS - Association of Sri Lankan Sociologists
public interfaces focusing on the full spectrum of Seminar on Women Leadership
international studies.
Signature Seminar Series
The newsletter highlights these achievements of the irst half - One Belt One Road at Five
of the year 2018. The institution has managed to forge a - Cyber Security
strategic annual plan that incorporates and integrates its
academic programmes with a clear research agenda that BCIS Thinkers Series
morphs well into its public outreach agenda. Thus the - Social and Political Contributions of Karl Marx
programmes that we are offering develop into a holistic and
seamless assemblage that helps in achieving a coherent Short Course on Intellectual Property Law:
institutional stabilization.
Issues in Libraries
The core responsibility of the BCIS is to offer the Sri Lankan
public with opportunities to engage in the study of the global Contributors : George Cooke

BCIS Signature Seminars in 2018 engaged with topics close to Nelum Dissanayake
our hearts, starting from an intellectual engagement of where Isuri Siriwardhana
Sri Lanka is at 70 years since its independence, to the role our Shalika Dias
women leaders and decision makers play in global and local Senuri Samarasinghe
governance and how they can help strengthen and shape the Thilini Kasthuri
destiny of Sri Lankan women to engage and lead in multiple
spheres of social to political life. Our LQA programmes are
expanding and burgeoning into mid-sized forums that
complement the Signature Seminars. The BCIS Thinkers Photography : Darshana Udayakumara
Series is creating opportunities for serious intellectual
debates on theories and philosophies that helped shape Editor : George Cooke
global opinion and knowledge.
Layout and Design : Thilini Kasthuri
BCIS introduced a new high level talk series, themed Afro
Asian Century Series which is an effort to ill an existential
vacuum in public talks and encourages participation of
internationally eminent personalities. The inaugural talk was
a signi icant success expanding BCIS visibility and recognition CENTRE
making it a true global think tank and education centre. BANDARANAIKE

Publications from the BCIS research team are increasing as FOR
they transform into a research faculty, thus strengthening Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS)
both our research and academic offerings.
