P. 11
Why is it important...
Employees need to know that they are more than just a number. They need to
know that someone is concerned about them as people first and as employees
second. Our goal is that every employee knows that they matter and are valued.
Q6: There is someone at work who encourages my development.
Our overall mean was 3.70 with 64% of us answering our level of agreement as a 4 or above, using a
five-point scale, where 5 means strongly agree and 1 means strongly disagree with that statement.
Across the US, an average of 4 in 10 employees say no one is looking out for their development.
Here at Kitsap, we recognize employees need help navigating the
course of their career. At times, employees need sponsorship, coaching,
protection, exposure and visibility, and challenging work assignments.
Under the Board’s direction, the County has created a number of
programs to help employees learn and grow, including:
• InnovateU tuition advancement & reimbursement program
• A new performance evaluation program that is being piloted by a number of divisions across
the government
Q7: At work, my opinions seem to count.
Our overall mean was 3.58 with 59% of us answering our level of agree-
ment as a 4 or above, using a five-point scale, where 5 means strongly
agree and 1 means strongly disagree with that statement.
Nationwide, only 1 in 5 workers strongly agree that their opinions count
at work. This question gets at the sense of value that employees put on
their work and their organization
Why is it important...
We know employees want to feel valued. They want to know that their input is
important and that they are making a significant contribution and a difference to the
environment in which they work. This feeling creates a greater sense of inclusion
among workers and reinforces their sense of self-worth.
