I currently drive a school bus for the public school system. I have a degree in IT, plus
decades of experience. I have applied for different IT jobs in the system, but all of them want me
to give up driving a school bus. I enjoy driving a school bus and getting to know the students.
Why can’t I do both?

I am glad that you enjoy driving a school bus and wish you the best of luck in future
endeavors. If your school district is like most others, the bus driver is the lowest persons in the
system. It is very simple and also very difficult to explain at the same time. Bus drivers are on a
completely different contract than the rest of the district, in most cases. In most districts, bus
drivers are on a contract where twenty hours is full time. Schools do this in order to provide
benefits for the bus drivers. And most bus drivers only work 4 hours a day. And anything
between 8AM and 2PM is extra duty and in some case would run into overtime. So if you were
to another job in the district, you would make over time every week and the schools don’t want
that. You could possibly have two contracts with the district; One would allow you to continue to
