Computers can teach Math, English, History, Medicine and even how to hit a baseball.
Computers can even teach different writing techniques.
Teachers get impatient, tired and need breaks even more than the kids their teaching.
Teachers are not always available. Teachers get old and cranky. Teachers are definitely not
upgradeable. And there are some questions that a teacher cannot answer.
Computers cannot provide motivation to learn. Teachers, when not focused on
themselves, can be a catalyst for a student learning experience. From a professional and personal
perspective, I believe that teacher have become obsolete. I also believe that technology is only
partially to be blamed. I believe that teachers have become complacent and lazy and this has led
to teachers becoming obsolete and technology is more than willing to take your place.
Summary
Although some critics will argue that teachers should not be written off just yet, many
more have seen that the writing is most definitely on the wall. Teachers, in their complacency
and greed, have allowed technology to basically taken the teachers place. Teachers will now, in
order to be relevant, have to become more specialized. There will always be a need for special
needs teachers. And teachers for preschool through the third grade. For now, these lower grades
students still need direction. However, at the rate technology is going, it is only a matter of time
before all teachers are obsolete. I will provide an example. Several years ago Britany Spears
released a CD that was copy protected. That means that you could not rip the CD into an MP3
album. Just a few days after release, a six year old kid posted online that in order bypass the copy
protection when you put the CD in the CD tray and pushed close, just hold down the F3 key.
And it worked. And this was a six year old. Only time will tell what happens next.
