Unit # 7
CHI-SQUARE TEST
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this unit, readers will be able to:
Understand and be able to perform a 7-step hypothesis
test for Chi-Square statistics.
Identify when to use Chi-Square test in research.
Calculate the expected frequency for a cell in a
contingency table.
Perform manual calculations of Chi-Square and look up
the critical value in the chi-square table.
Practically conduct Chi-Square test in SPSS.
Interpret and writing Chi-Square results.
Chi-Square Test
Chi-Square test is used to find the relationship between two or
more categorical variables. The chi-square test works with ordinal
or nominal data. The purpose of a Chi-Square is to compare the
observed frequencies to expected frequencies. Thus, the chi-square
test (2) is used to find a relationship between two or more
categorical variables.
