how many nights we spend on the way, how difficult the
terrain, how cold or hot it is. We may not even care if we are
starving, so long as we have our eyes firmly fixed on the peak.
We are happy in the knowledge that we are getting nearer day
by day. One day we shall find ourselves the foot of the peak.
This process of travelling with the peak in view corresponds to
traversing the remaining stages of the Noble Eightfold Path.
Eventually we may find ourselves on the lower slopes of the
mountain. We may even find ourselves on the virgin snows of
the peak itself — may find that we have attained
Enlightenment, or Buddhahood.
