               BLANCHETOWN – SUNDAY 20 AUGUST
Following an invitation from the Barossa Valley Fishing Club to the WVFG I
attended their fishing and social day at Blanchetown. As always the welcome was
warm and an added bonus of meeting some of their newest members.
The day was nippy early and was 1 degree as I travelled through Truro on
the way. The weather warmed up considerably at Blanchetown and fishing
               conditions were favourable.
No boats were taken by club members as it was a meet and greet the new
members day so all fishing was done off the bank in the vicinity of the boat ramp.
Several good sized carp were hauled in and one of the BVFC members lost a rod
when it was pulled into the river by what was obviously a very large fish.
I decided to give the corn and Carp a miss by fishing with worms as bait in
the hope of catching a Callop. I was rewarded in this endeavour and got two nice
specimens. The one pictured below measured 36cm and was a very nice fish both to
               catch and also to eat.
The mum and dad duck parading their newborn 10 ducklings to us was a bonus.
As the weather warms fishing in the river will become a very enjoyable
day out and I would commend it to you all. The fact that there are good size Callop in
the river spells well for our Punyelroo activity in October.
