Health promotion and disease prevention

                health promotion is not just the responsibility of the health sector, but


                goes beyond healthy life-styles to well-being.



              Health  Promotion  engaged  in  health  care  system  through  national

                legislation  and  policies  that  provide  economic  &  political  support  for

                health promotion services in the community.



              Health Promotion is the provision of information and/or education  to


                individuals,  families,  and  communities  that-encourage  family  unity,

                community commitment, and traditional spirituality that make positive

                contributions to their health status.


        Examples of health promoting behaviors:


              Dietary teaching during pregnancy (individual).


              Education regarding smoking, adequate sleep at night, normal average


                weight, habit of eating breakfast, dental care, recreational activity and

                nutritional counseling (family).



              AIDS and other STD education for high school students (group).

              Environmental sanitation (community).




        Health  protection,  also  known  as  risk  reduction,  refers  to  actions  that


        protect  people  against  health  &  safety  risks.  It  refers  to  programs  aimed

        toward  facilitating  behaviors  that  enable  people  to  react  to  health  threats

        through early identification and avoidance of risks.
