Health promotion and disease prevention
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Examples of health protecting
behaviors:
Immunizing the population against
infectious diseases.
Reducing exposure to environmental
health hazards (air pollution, noise
control….etc).
Disease Prevention, an intervention to reduce likelihood that a disease,
injury or disorder will affect an individual. Or to interrupt or slow down the
progress of that disease. Successful prevention depends upon knowledge of
causation, dynamics of transmission, identification of risk factors and risk
groups, availability of prophylactic or early detection and treatment
measures, and organization for applying these measures to appropriate
persons or groups, and continuous evaluation of and development of
procedures applied.
Levels of prevention
Primary prevention: it means action
taken prior to the onset of disease,
which removes the possibility that a
disease will ever occur such as
schedule of vaccination for children.
