Enhance transparency, accessibility and openness through online solutions that
empower the public
Government-to-Citizen is the communication link between a government
and private individuals or residents. Such G2C communication most often refers
to that which takes place through Information and Communication Technologies
(ICTs), but can also include direct mail and media campaigns. – (source-
en.wikipedia.org) Since the beginning of the IT Department establishing an
internet presence and citizen engagement has always had been priority. IT has
taken a leadership role in ensuring information is shared with the public through
electronic means. We have combine our efforts with our City app having 2,000
downloads and growing to our website which was a 2016 finalist in the NAGW
Pinnacle awards. With real time push notifications and daily updates we are
always ensuring our content is up to date. Social Media is also becoming an
essential tool for digital citizen engagement, The City of Marion utilizes tools like
Facebook with 2,927 followers, Nextdoor-1115 members and YouTube 242
subscribers. (The metric page with further outline stats) to further help get the
message out. IT continues to partner closely with other departments to support
and enhance their own transparency initiatives
