P. 13
Is the provision of a service by one part of an organization or group, where that
service had previously been found, in more than one part of the organization or group.
The concept of an IT department as a shared-services organization is, at the
highest level, an alternative to decentralization. Instead of each agency
purchasing their own devices like a server or software, they all buy some (or all)
of their IT products and services from a central group.
We are currently using this type of service with The Herrin Police Department,
through an intergovernmental agreement we will soon have other agencies join.
Not only is this a great cost savings for all agencies involved but also a great
leap forward for all first responders. The IT department will continue to grow our
infrastructure in order to accommodate this growth and development.
Key Strategies:
• Make sure all agencies have fast, secure, reliable access to the data
• Educate the end-users on security policy
Shared Services • Maintain and check each agency for Cyber Security Insurance
