Research Collaboration Yielding Good Results :
UNISA's Department of Civil Engineering receives
Sustainable Concrete Ambassador Award
The 1st international conference on Advances in Cement and Concrete Research (ICASSR 2022) has been recently
concluded at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Nigeria from 15 to 18 November 2022. The
conference was organised by the Cement and Concrete Research group (CEMCON), LAUTECH and Sustainable Green
Concrete Research Group (SGCRG) from the Department of Civil Engineering at UNISA. During the conference,
UNISA's SGCRG received a Sustainable concrete ambassador award.
The collaboration LAUTECH and UNISA began in 2019 when Prof Akeem Raheem from LAUTECH came to UNISA as
a visiting professor under the host of Prof Bolanle Ikotun (Department of Civil Engineering). Upon the completion of the
academic visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between LAUTECH and UNISA wherein various
engagements between staff members from Unisa's Department of Civil Engineering and LAUTECH have taken place.
The LAUTECH - UNISA collaboration has resulted in several research publications being co-authored by departments
from the two institutions.
During the ICASSR 2022 conference, Prof Raheem served as the chair of the conference and Bolanle as the co-chair,
wherein an agreement with “Materials Today: Proceedings” journal for the publication of the articles presented during
the conference was signed.
Collaborations of this nature that occur among African universities and institutions are exemplary to Unisa mandate of
being an African university shaping futures in the service of humanity.
