Q6. How is the Health Sector initiative divided amongst Centre and State?
Ans. As per the Constitution of India, the areas of Public Health, Hospitals, Sanitation,

etc, fall in the State list . Thus, States are largely independent in matters related to
the delivery of health care to the people.

Though each State has developed its own infrastructure and system, some areas
of wider ramifications like population control, family welfare, medical education,
prevention of food adulteration, quality control in manufacture of drugs etc have
been included in the Concurrent list, where both centres and states can issue
legislation.

In addition, the Centre also supports key health initiatives through National Rural
Health Mission, which are funded by the Centre and generally implemented by
State.
