             Traceability

The first phase of the Lynca project was successfully completed. The main
aim of the first phase of the Lynca project was to register
Global Location Numbers (GLNs) for all units supplying pigs to Lynca. The
main reason for registering GLNs for the various units was to ensure that all units
are uniquely identified globally. Some of the farmers did decide not to
partake in the project and therefore no GLNs was registered for them.

SAPPO has decided to move forward with the project and to start the
implementation of Phase 2. Phase two of the project will focus on the flow of
information from the farm to the abattoir. This project will also include the flow
of slaughter information from abattoir to farm. Phase two will only focus on
the most necessary information for basic batch traceability and will only be
implemented by six farmers supplying to Lynca for a start.
