Applications

There were some changes done on the Passive Surveillance part of the
veterinary module. The app will be rolled out to CSVet and Mooivet after the
Coronavirus lockdown. Once they are satisfied with all the functions, the app
will be rolled out to all pig veterinary practices.

The new BDM app is up and running. It allows farmers assisted by the BDM’s
to also register in the WoP and for SAPPO to improve the intelligence collected
in the BDM programme. The following surveys are available on the BDM app:
• BDM – Farm Visit
• BDM Disease Notification
• Mentor – Reproduction Survey
• Mentor – Production Survey
• Mentor – Economics Survey
• Mentor – Marketing Survey

Meat Trade Platform

SAPPO is always seeking ways to stimulate exports and gain access to foreign
export markets and ensure that imports adhere to national standards and
international trade agreements. A key requirement for monitoring and
stimulating trade is the availability of reliable trade data. SAPPO identified the
need to create a central repository of meat trade data that will host import
and export data of key meat products and provide access to participating
stakeholders.

The BI team is working to create a central database and platform that will host
trade data on pork, poultry, beef and lamb products. SAPPO will make this
database available to its members through the WoP and to the South African
Feedlot Association and the Association of Meat Importers and Exporters
(AMIE).

Information Sheets

Information sheets currently distributed:
• Exports and Imports – The source changed to AMIE, who receives the
data directly from SARS. A.S. Consulting cleans the data and changes
it into the format needed to feed into the World of Pork.
