                    Bursaries
                     01                         Bursary 01   One bursary has been awarded to Chantell Pennicott who will be

                   Research projects
                    04                          Project 01  The practical work of the Carcass classification project was
                                                            completed and a final report received and presented to the
                                                            Board. A further study using 19 000 carcasses was done to
                    Projects                                compare the old PORCUS classes to the new proposed SAFRIC
                                                            classes. The next step would be to get the new formulas
                                                            published as regulations in the Government Gazette.
                                                Project 02  Melissa Cupido’s project titled “Improving the livelihood of pig
                                                            farmers of commages in rural areas of Western Cape” is now
                                                            funded.

                                                Project 03  Dr Juanita van Heerden of the ARC-OVI at Onderstepoort works
                                                            on a project titled:” The Risk of African Swine Fever to Gauteng”
                                                            SAPPO is providing partial funding. The first progress report is
                                                            awaited.

                                                Project 04  Dr Mokoele of the Veterinary faculty at Onderstepoort is
                                                            partially funded for a PhD project titled “The prevalence,
                                                            perceptions and mitigation of antimicrobial resistance in pig
                                                            farms of Gauteng province and surroundings in South Africa”.
                                                            SAPPO was asked to fund the part on molecular markers.
