Hazards (SCDREH), Al-Azhar University, Nasr city; Cairo, Egypt
ABSTRACT
Global warming refers to the fact that over the past several decades there has
been a steady monotonic increase in the average global temperature of the
earth the decade of the 100s witnessed the highest average global temperature
recorded. The geologic record supports that throughout time the earth’s
temperature has fluctuated, with periods of warmth alternating with periods
of cooling and ice ages. Many believe that human activities are responsible
for the global warming that has occurred over the past 100 years. During this
period, burning of carbon-based fuels has steadily increased the a mound of
carbon of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the earth’s
atmosphere there is no controversy that we are in a period of global warming.
The controversy is about the cause and the cure. Experts retained by the
petroleum industry and petroleum producing countries argue in the press
and before congressional committees that the earth’s climate has fluctuate
throughout geologic history, and there is no need to restrict our use of fossil
fuels. Environmentalists and climatologists plot the increase in carbon
dioxide against the global temperature and show a correlation, pointing to
the basic science the greenhouse effect. This talk will deal with history,
causes, and curing the problem and the role of united nation as well as local
solutions all over the world including Egypt.
