P. 16
If your problem is something that has to be kept secret, you can do this “hypothetically”
which means you don’t have to tell anyone the real problem if you don’t want to.
Instead, you can make up something that is the same as the real problem, but keeps the
details secret and private.
Koala-thinking
Sleep on it (yawn, goodnight). Things always seem worse when you are tired. A few
hours rest can help and after a good night’s sleep, things may not seem so bad in the
morning. You will probably be able to think more clearly. Also, you might get some ideas
during the night – keep a pen and notepad handy to write down any thoughts that might
help. When you read them in the morning, they may be total rubbish, but there might
also be something helpful. Write down your dreams, too, because sometimes your brain
can be telling you things about your
problems through dreams.
Sleeping on a problem can be a very
useful ‘thinking tool’ for many
reasons: you can avoid rushing into
a decision and making snap
decisions (Crocodile thinking).
Things may look better the next day.
Some of the ideas for this book
came to me in the middle of the night, so I wrote them down and went back to sleep.
