Matching always needs self‐(er)knowledge and knowledge of human
• The "what" is about a person's competencies, their skills
and abilities.
• The "how" focuses on behavior: which personality traits have
what specific influence on behavior?
• When it comes to "why", a person's values, attitudes and
beliefs are important: What vision guides him, what
overriding goals are decisive for him?
I am particularly interested in the "why", i.e. the values, attitudes
and beliefs. Because our decision-making behavior is often
dependent on our values and beliefs. Values control our behavior
and motivate us to set goals and implement them. Our values
answer the question, "Why are we behaving this way?" In other
words, they provide information about the underlying motives of
our actions.
Often, however, our own values are not reflected and control our
behavior from the subconscious. That's why it's important to get clear
about them. Your values may be one reason why you are dissatisfied
with a job, for example, without knowing exactly why that is.
Based on the insights of the German cultural philosopher and
psychologist Eduard Spranger, I want to distinguish between six basic
values, which Spranger already set out in his book Lebensformen in
1914. Of course, every person has more than one of these six values.
As a rule, two values are particularly strong. They cause us to
approach certain activities with energy, motivation and enthusiasm.
